WHY Does Man Crave these things?

Is there an Answer or Rationale to these addictions?

4,000 years ago God created Adam & Eve. Adam and Eve were totally DEpendant upon God, Mentally, Physically & Spiritually. God, their creator, was their real friend. God’s friendship between Adam and Eve was nothing short of absolute UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Adam and Eve did not have to EARN God’s love. God GAVE His love to Adam and Eve. God loved them for who they were not what they were or what they could give God. God also gave them Freedom of Choice.

Upon the completion of God’s creation and the settling in of Adam and Eve into the Garden of Eden Satan appears and tempts Adam and Eve with his lies and half-truths. (see Genesis chapter 3) Adam and Eve exercised their FREE WILL (power of choice) and go along with Satan. Adam and Eve, in effect, choose to be INdependance from God. They knew the consequences of their actions for they sew leaves together for clothes to cover their shame.

Their relationship therefore with God immediately ended. God is still Holy but Man is now Sinful. Adam and Eve are ejected from the Garden of Eden. They lose their relationship with God together with His unconditional love and support.

Prior to Adam and Eve falling into disobedience against God’s rules they had a SECURE and safe relationship with God. They also enjoyed a Healthy SELF-ESTEEM as a result of their awareness of God’s Unconditional love for them. Their tending of God’s creation, as per God’s instructions given to them, gave them a SIGNIFICANT reason to live and to respond to God’s unconditional love.

BUT now, in Adam and Eves fallen “sinful” state, they are separated from God and have become Spiritually dead as God told them they would be if they disobeyed his rule by partaking of the forbidden fruit. As a result Adam and Eve become INsecure, having now no direct relationship with God. They also developed a Low self-esteem as they only had their own self-value standards to judge themselves by. Consequently they had No Sense of Spiritual Significance but only a corrupted form from secular achievement.

Man today still yearns for the true fulfilment of life that Adam and Eve once had prior to their disobedience toward God. The craving for such a relationship now leads man, unknowingly and unwillingly, into extreme habit forming behaviour that can result in Drugs, Alcohol, Illicit Sex, (STD’s, HIV & AIDS) Pornography, Eating Disorders, Abuse of the Media etc, etc. These lifestyles will lead to shortened lives and therefore premature deaths, which are prolonged forms of suicide. Man cannot possibly replace God in his life with anything but God. There is no substitute.

Jeremiah 2:12-13. Be appalled at this, O heavens, and shudder with great horror,” declares the LORD. “My people have committed two sins: 1) They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, 2) they have dug their own water tanks, broken water tanks that cannot hold water.

John 4:13-14. Jesus, in answering the women at the well said, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again: But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him he will never thirst again; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Only through Jesus can man fill the void left from having no Spiritual relationship with God. Only Jesus can give true purpose to life. Only Jesus can free us from our addictions. Only Jesus can reconnect us to God. Only Jesus can give us a true meaningful relationship with God.

Luke 4:18. Jesus stood up in the Temple to read and this is what He read, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because God has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; God has sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind and to set at liberty them that are bruised.

Friend, are you “broken hearted”? Are you “captivated”? into some “bondage” or addiction that you need “deliverance” from”? Have you been “bruised” by life? Are you too ashamed to tell anyone? Is the pain slowly killing you?

God sent His Son Jesus into this world in order to show us what His love is like and to restore our broken relationship and friendship with God. God wants to love us and provide for us Mentally, Physically & Spiritually. God waits to restore to us His unconditional love, our sense of self-worth and our significant reason for life.
